Big Easy Iron Works: The Best Sliding Gates in New Orleans

Tired of turning down solicitors? Looking for enhanced security and a stately look at the end of your driveway? One that compliments your landscape and home?

We get it. Your home is a sanctuary – it’s the place you go after a long day at work, the place you host your friends’ families for a casual dinner – not a place for solicitors and trespassers.

That’s why we offer impressive, ornamental, and custom sliding driveway gates for our New Orleans clients. From modern looks to antique finishes, we have something for everyone.

These gates open only for you and your trusted friends (using a keypad, gate opener, or intercom) and can be designed to fit your home’s existing style. Sliding gates, in particular, are a favorite style for our modern-aesthetic clients, since the sliding feature gives a more suave impression than traditional swing-gates.

What is an electric sliding gate?

Wrought iron sliding gates - Big Easy Iron WorksA sliding gate is generally a single gate or double panel (that can be made to match your fence if you’d like) that slides to the side to allow entry when you or your guests approach your driveway.

These designs generally require more side-to-side room than a swing gate, but not as much street-to-garage space for operation as with a swing gate.

Big Easy Iron Works offers a variety of styles for our New Orleans wrought iron sliding gates. Contact us to find out more about the types of materials and designs available to help you find the best fit.

Why install a sliding gate

Is a slide gate the right decision for you? What about other gate styles – why install a sliding gate, over a swinging option?

If you’ve been browsing gate types and planning your entrance, you may have questions about whether this gate style is for you. To help with your decision, we’ve listed below some of the top reasons our customers choose a sliding gate style:

Sliding gates are the most subtle option when open. Because they slide to the side, they can be nearly invisible alongside an existing fence.

If you don’t have much space from the driveway to the curb, a sliding gate is the best option – it takes up the least driveway-to-curb space of the many gate styles.

If you have a new driver, it may be best to choose a sliding gate. If you install a swing gate, your new driver (and their friends) will have to estimate the distance between their car and the open swing gate every time they exit, which could result in the gate or car damage. A swing gate is much simpler and less risky.

  • Big Easy Iron Works can repair your gate when it’s broken, so you don’t have to worry about finding a professional who can help if something happens to your gate after installation.
  • Our New Orleans driveway gates come in a variety of materials, shapes, and designs to compliment your architecture or add a new dimension to your landscaping.
  • Options for opening your electric gate include passes (like garage door openers), keypads, and intercoms. That means you won’t get solicitors knocking on your door, but your friends will still be able to “buzz in” for that birthday party you’re planning.
  • Gates also add security by creating a barrier to entry for trespassers.
  • Finally, if you’re thinking of selling your home soon, gates add curb appeal and increase your home value by up to 5%.

A sliding gate can add style to your entryway without taking up space, let in your friends while keeping out solicitors, and disappear behind a fence when you need it to stay open for an extended period of time (like for social events). For these and other reasons, we find many residential customers prefer sliding gates for their properties.

Experience providing automatic gates for residents

Don’t trust just anybody to put help you select and install your slide gate. Security gates can be complex to install and require a trained professional expertise to set up correctly. Further, not all professionals use top-grade products and have in-house technicians and ironworkers that can handle custom applications like we do.

There are a variety of factors that can influence the longevity and quality of your slide gate, including:

  • Driveway gates-Big Easy Iron WorksQuality of metal. Will your gate bend or warp easily, or show signs of wear from the tough NOLA elements? Our driveway gates for homes feature high-quality iron that won’t easily bend, break, or show signs of wear. We take pride in installing only the very best products and are passionate about the craftsmanship we put into our work.
  • Hinges. Hinges are a crucial part of your gate’s function. If your hinges wear quickly, they could jam your gate, resulting in sagging over time or even break off. Additionally, poorly-made hinges are a security weakness and could result in break-ins. We make sure all hinges for our automatic gates are strong and securely-installed.
  • Stability of posts. Your gate will be attached to posts that are buried in the ground and cemented in place. If these are not installed properly, your gate could sag or collapse in bad weather. Our posts are securely mounted – under normal conditions, your gate should last for years to come without sagging issues.

In addition to impeccable attention to detail and build, our company offers a 3-year structural warranty and 1-year paint warranty on our gates. Call us for more information on why our gates stand out and to find out about any current promotions!

About New Orleans

New Orleans is a city bursting with color and creativity; no matter how long you’ve lived here, there’s always something new to see and do!

Here are a few must-see things for new and seasoned residents to do:

  • Royal Carriage Tour: The French Quarter is one of the most iconic areas (if not the most iconic area) of New Orleans. Rather than simply wandering the shops, book a carriage tour! You’ll learn about the history of the area and enjoy a unique experience in the process.
  • Barataria Preserve: New Orleans is full of nature preserves and parks (and the animals don’t stay within the bounds of the preserves and parks, either). The Barataria Preserve is one of the best places to spot crocodiles cooling in the bayou; if you’re having trouble finding them, book a guided tour with a park ranger to learn how to tell the difference between bark and scales at a distance.
  • Audubon Aquarium of the Americas: Rather than just housing animals from many oceans and seas, this aquarium focuses on wildlife found in our state. With over 500 species and 10,000 animals, it features a Mississippi River gallery, a gulf gallery, and more.
